Packaging is one of the main industries using polymers: polyolefin remains by far
the main polymer family used, but many other high performance polymers are also
selected, sometimes in combinations like in multi-layers systems.
One of the key challenges of the future packaging solutions is to retain similar
performances while reducing packaging weight. This is where some of the latest polymer
additives can help.
Future packaging systems are now being investigated, having function integration
as a motto. This is where special additives, named functional ingredients, can play
a key role by enhancing taste of packaged food, or even masking unpleasant odours
by releasing fragrance additives.
