As polymers and their additives are mainly derived from oil a strong trend towards biobased solutions have emerged. Whatever these environmentally friendly additives are vegetable-derived, or synthesized by microorganisms, they allow a lower dependence on oil. But what is probably much more innovative: they allow brand new products to be developed. Natural fillers and fibers have long been used in polymers, but still many technology advances are investigated to improve final product performances.
