Reactive Extrusion: Fundamentals and good practices

Course Objective:

Get a clear overview of the fundamentals of reactive extrusion (REX). Our expert Dr. Raphael Mestanza will guide you through the main challenges, chemical principles and processes so you can gain the most from this technology.

  • Get a clear overview of the fundamentals of reactive extrusion (REX)
  • Understand the main challenges, chemical principles and processes so you can gain the most from this technology
  • Learn how to control rheology, graft or crosslink various polymers
  • Raphael Mestanza will guide you through real-life case studies and offer his extensive expertise during the presentation and Q&A session

  • 5 reasons to attend this online course:
Reason 1 Real-life case studies and examples will help you gain the most from this technology

Reason 2 Understand the benefits and the limitations of REX

Reason 3 Learn the chemistries and the processes to control rheology, functionalize polymers (grafting)

Reason 4 Learn how to compatibilize polymer blends and to produce TPVs

Reason 5 Learn the fundamentals of reactive extrusion

Reactive extrusion (REX) is an extrusion-conducted process which allows the chemical and/or the structural modification of polymers. This technology is mainly used to control polymers' rheology (melt flow, melt strength), to functionalize polyolefins, compatibilize polymers blends, crosslink, recombine polymer backbones and even to polymerize. It is generally flexible and can avoid long and costly development of new polymers.

Participants looking for solutions to control rheology, recycle or improve polymer compatibility will come away with the knowledge to do so.

Case studies on the following will be explained in depth: REX for Rheology modification, REX for Polymer functionalization and grafting, REX for Polymer blends Compatibilization, REX for Dynamic vulkanization.

    WHO SHOULD ATTEND AND WHY?

  • Additives producers, Polymer Producers, Compounders, Recyclers or Universities who wish to better understand the potential of this technology and the directions it can take them on.

  • Engineers, Scientists and Managers who have limited to medium experience with REX (or want to understand the potential of this technology) who wish to better their new product development projects

  • PREREQUISITES TO FULLY BENEFIT FROM THIS COURSE:

Participants should have limited to medium experience with REX (or want to understand the potential of this technology).

The following sections will be covered during the online presentation (60 minutes):

    1. Introduction (Preliminary remarks)

    2. REX Fundamentals:
    - Challenges
    - Main chemistries
    - General rules
    - Influence of processing parameters

    Case Studies:
    3. REX for Rheology modification:
    - MFI control
    - Polymer branching

    4. REX for Polymer Crosslinking

    5. REX for Polymer functionalization and grafting:
    - Maleic anhydride grafting
    - GMA grafting

    6. REX for Polymer blends Compatibilization

    7. REX for Dynamic vulkanization

    8. Conclusion
