Impact Modification strategies for Engineering polymers

Attend this online training course and build stronger fundations on impact modifiers to get faster to the right balance between toughening efficiency and compatibility with other additives.

5 reasons to attend this online course:
Reason 1 Review the different types of impact modification techniques and their pros & cons

Reason 2 Increase your working autonomy by better understanding the structure/performance relationship for each type of impact modifiers

Reason 3 Save time by preventing unwanted interaction between impact modifiers and other additives such as pigments and fillers

Reason 4 Bridge the gap between theory and practice with real-life examples on transparency and colorability

Reason 5 Reduce ingredients screening with a quick reference guide linking impact modification strategy and suitable application

Formulating engineering plastics is all about finding the right balance of properties and at the right price. When using additives to improve impact resistance, one must be aware of the changes that occur in other properties and how to maximize the benefits while minimizing the negatives.

WHAT YOU WILL TAKE AWAY FROM THIS COURSE:

Attendees will review the fundamentals of impact modification strategies, their benefits & side-effects in practice leading to easier & wiser selection of the best solution depending upon their particular plastic and application.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

The course is specifically designed for those who are new to the industry or those who want to refresh their knowledge on impact modification strategies of engineering resins.

  • Compounders who need to provide tailored materials for their clients will save time by focusing on the right impact modification technology at first sight
  • Plastics engineers will have a better understanding of their material behavior and uncover origin of toughening issues faster
  • Purchasing professionals will gain more confidence in discussing about impact modifiers with suppliers & R&D colleagues.
  • The following sections will be covered during the session:

    1. Plastics fundamentals, e.g. mechanical properties
    2. Property balance between modulus, strength and impact resistance
    3. Performance : cost ratios for thermoplastic materials
    4. Different types of impact modification: adding fillers, elastomer particles or making polymer blends
    5. Interaction between particulate impact modifiers and fillers / pigments
    6. How impact modifiers affect transparency and colourability
    7. The pros and cons of different elastomer chemistry (polybutadiene versus acrylate rubber)
    8. The importance of impact modifier particle size, bonding and cross-linking
    9. The mechanisms of impact modifications
    10. Summary sheet as a quick reference guide to modifier selection
