    Raul Carlson Raul Carlson
          Dr Raul Carlson has worked with developing life cycle assessment (LCA) into a business advantage tool for Swedish companies since early 1990s. In the first years his work focused on information handling for LCA, and was soon oriented towards practical integration of LCA into the different business functions of companies.

    Dr Carlson was employed by Chalmers university of technology in Sweden between 1995 and 2008. Between 1996 and 2001 he was project manager for building the Swedish national LCA database for academy and industries. This was done within the frame of the Swedish national competence center CPM (Center for environmental assessment of Product and Material systems), an inter-sectorial joint research industry and academy research center financed by the Swedish industry and government. Between 2001 and 2008 Raul Carlson was assigned head of an industrial environmental research group at the Chalmers university, the group performed practical research together with Swedish, European and international industries in order to develop and integrate environmental management tools for business purposes. Dr Carlson has experience from working intimately with a wide range of industries, including chemical, paper and forestry, automotive, heavy electrical equipment, transport, consumer electronics and service industry.

    Dr Carlson has participated in the international standardization on Life Cycle Assessment since 1998. In the beginning he particularly worked on ISO /TS 14048 as Swedish expert in the international work and as convener in the Swedish mirror group. He has also participated in the revision of the ISO 14040 standards and in the development of the ongoing standardization about eco-efficiency. From June 2009 he will chair a new international standardization work group on environmental information quality.

    Since 2003 Dr Raul Carlson has developed and held a course in LCA for ISO. Raul Carlson has held the course at several different places over the world and have drawn participants from around 40 countries. Based on this course he also authored a Swedish handbook in LCA according to ISO, and in May 2009 he received Author of the Year award from the Swedish Standards Institute for this handbook.

    Today Dr Carlson combines his time as industrial sustainable business consultant towards with a position as senior researcher at the Swedish Viktoria transport & vehicle research institute.
