    BASF's polyurethanes business in North America announced an updated, FDA-compliant product list for coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers market. The following polyether polyols were recently added to the list: PluracolÒ P1010, PluracolÒ 1044, PluracolÒ 816 and PluracolÒ TPE 4542.

  • Lurgi Being Awarded the Second PA6 Plant by LiHeng in China (Sep 2, 2010)
    LiHeng has now awarded Lurgi the new contract for two lines with a nameplate capacity of another 100,000 tons per annum. Lurgi will supply the Zimmer two-stage PA6 technology with the basic engineering, the main equipment including the pre-polymerization and VK tube reactors, and the supervision of erection and commissioning.

  • Researchers Develop an Efficient Way to Enhance Widespread Application of CNTs (Sep 1, 2010)
    This new method will enable large-scale manufacture of modified CNTs, a major hurdle in the development of industrial-scale applications. The new method should allow CNTs to be readily tailored to potential applications such as sensor networks, filters, electrodes for electrochemical devices, advanced catalysts.

  • Cereplast Strikes Deal with RI.ME. Masterbatch to Supply Bioplastics Resins for European Market (Aug 30, 2010)
    Under the terms of the contract, Cereplast will supply its Compostable 3000 film grade for use in RI.ME.'s masterbatching processes for the production of items such as carry out bags and compostable trash bags. The initial contract runs through December 2011.

  • NEC Develops High-Performance Bioplastic Using Non-Edible Plant Resources (Aug 27, 2010)
    As an alternative to petroleum-based components, cellulose is the plastic's major ingredient. The cellulose, which is produced in large amounts by plants, including grass stems, etc., is modified by cardanol, an oil-like material that is extracted from cashew nut shells.
