The term fog is used to describe condensation of water vapour on plastic films in the form of small discrete droplets.

This phenomenon is frequently observed:
  • When food -containing a high amount of water- is wrapped in transparent plastic packaging and stored in cold places. As a result of fogging, the food often looks less attractive to consumers and is more liable to spoilage.
  • In agricultural film applications such as in greenhouses, fogging can cause retardation of plants' growth and increases the possibility of plants' disease and damage.

Internal antifog agents are directly incorporated into plastics to spread condensed water droplets into a continuous and uniform transparent layer of water on the fabricated film.
