Melamine homologues

Melamine homologues (melam, melem, melon) have higher thermal stability compared to pure melamine and melamine cyanurate. If processing temperatures are well above the temperature range of Melamine Cyanurate (320°C) this may result in mould deposit. Melamine homologues offer an alternative nitrogen source that can be used under such extreme conditions. Melam, melem and melon are believed to act in general in the same way as melamine only at higher temperature.

Melam (1,3,5- triazine-2,4,6-triamine-n -(4,6-diamino-1,3,5- triazine-2-yl)
Appearance: fine, light white-grey powder
thermal decomposition at 400ºC

Melem (-2,5,8-triamino 1,3,4,6,7,9,9b - Heptaazaphenalene) [ 1502-47-2]
Appearance: fine, light yellow powder
thermal decomposition at 500ºC.

Melon (poly [8-amino- 1,3,4,6,7,9,9b- Heptaazaphenalene-2,5-diyl)imino]
Appearance: fine yellow powder.
Melting Point and thermal decomposition above 500ºC
Specific Density: 1.686 g/cc at 20ºC
Bulk Density: ±500 kg/m3
